so...umm...

those links don't work. so here are the photos.

sit tight...

i've got a massive update summing up january on its way.
i'm in the process of writing it, but since i have so much to fill you in on, it's taking a while, and i'm not going to do it all in one sitting because i just don't feel like it. but it's coming. not to worry. :)
i suppose i'll give you a few tidbits to look forward to:
  • this semester's workload
  • fix-it projects
  • classes and professors
  • how to tell someone something they don't want to hear
also.
to keep you entertained, meet my mascot, sprinkles. he is my motivator. kate gave him to me for christmas (his given name was rainbow, which i found to be highly unfitting, since he is only two colors.) here are some more photos of him hanging out with a friend, wearing my glasses , and helping me with homework.
some people have pictures of their dogs, family, or significant others as the background on their ipods or phones. i have sprinkles.
enjoy. :)

summing up january

sorry i haven't posted in the past month that i've been back. this semester is a lot more....involved than last semester (as you're about to find out). so without further ado, here's january's highlights.
***
first of all, i need to rant about this stupid health class that i'm taking. it's online, so you'd think it would be relatively easy, since there's a ton of kids in this class (plus it's health. when is health ever hard?). but it's ridiculous. they're piloting a new health class this semseter, and we're the guinea pigs. so they have this "custom textbook" that we had to buy, so we could only get it from the Truman bookstore. the hard copy of the book cost $90 or you could get the code for the online textbook for $70. i paid seventy dollars for a piece of cardboard. so that pissed me off. and the class itself is so. much. work! we have multiple time consuming activities due three times a week. it SUCKS.
***
and speaking of health, i might as well rant about the "lab" portion (or as i like to refer to it, PE). kate and i are taking circuit strength training (which, of all the classes still open and compatible with the online class, was the least painful sounding. compare that to a class dedicated to kettlebells or one called "extreme muscle confusion"). it kicks our asses. it's getting better now, but somedays i swear i'm allergic to exercise. it makes my nose run and i get this giant wad of snot in my mouth, which makes it nearly impossible to get any air when we're running about the gym. (attractive, i know, but i think this could be considered a legitimate medical condition. my health science major and biology major friends do not agree.)
***
the weather. is ridiculous. it started off being cold, and then all of a sudden, it decided to be shorts and sandals weather (and, yes, there were lots of people walking about campus in january in shorts or skirts and sandals). it was in the fifties-sixties range. and then the next day, it snowed and proceded to be below freezing for several days. we've been on a cycle like this since we got back. it's either frigid arctic weather, or springtime. it's nuts.
***
speaking of it being cold, our window might as well not exist, because that's how much wind blows in it, despite the fact that it is shut and locked. danielle finally acquired some plastic from the hall desk (would you believe that they ran out and didn't know when they would get more?!) and i taped it up (not exactly a walk in the park). our room is significantly warmer now. it's not super warm unless, of course, it's warm outside, but at least when you walk in our room now it doesn't feel like you just crossed the threshold into the siberian tundra. i'm a fix-it woman. :)
***
speaking of fixing things! our showerhead has been so ridiculous all year. we've called fix-it a couple times, but they never came. the third time kate called, they came! and now instead of having a shower that sprays in every which direction and is therefore constantly pelting you in the face, we have one that drips more and has less pressure, but it sprays in a straight line. like a regular shower. it's so wonderful. we can actually shave (not to mention see) in there now. :)
***
so, as you're aware, i have a little piece of my hair that is purple. or at least, it's supposed to be. i redyed it in january and after two washes, it was back to the faded pinkish color. ugh. i can't win.
***
oh. my goodness. one sunday, my roommate was gone having brunch after mass and i do not recall where my suitemates were. but i woke up to the fire alarm going off. and it was raining outside. it was incredibly upsetting, because i was standing outside in my pajamas in the rain. though this wasn't nearly as bad as what one of my SAs, allison, faced. she was in the shower when it went off and had to go outside in a towel and a jacket. i felt so bad for her.
***
so my history teacher last semester was pretty much a joke. this semester, i have dr. wandel. he is so great. we don't have to write a paper for this class, and there's no lectures. we just have to read and then in class we discuss what we've read. and occasionally we have a pop quiz. i get so much more out of this class. it's like a dream.
***
despite this, however, i have a perpetual mountain of homework on my desk. i call it Mount Homework. it sucks. because all of my homework (usually) is reading. read, read, read, read, read. all the time. and i'm not a fast reader. so i constantly feel swamped by my workload.
***
i'll end with the most pressing issue. i had been getting rather frustrated with my roommate, and part of this was stress from not wanting to tell her that i don't want to room with her next year. it's hard to tell someone that, especially when it's someone as nice and delicate as her. it's like breaking up with someone. and it was awkward when i told her. because she seemed like she didn't want to not room with me. she was holding back tears. but after that night, she was totally fine. and it got easier to deal with her.
***
....but now she's driving me nuts again. mostly because she doesn't have class till 10:30 on monday, wednesday, and friday, and noon on tuesdays, but she gets up at eight. and it's not just the fact that she's awake that's annoying, it's that she tries to have conversations with me (i am SO not a morning person) and/or she's constantly in my way. oh my goodness. i'll refrain from more complaints, but really. it's so frustrating.
***
that's all i have for now. i know that was very comprehensive. i'll try to be more brief next time. :)
