oh hey, it's november
greetings. i hope everyone had a lovely october and halloween. did anyone else think october went by really fast? how is it already november? also, halloween didn't really feel like halloween to me. maybe because it was on a wednesday..? but kate and i had a lot going on. this past week has been I'm Not For Sale week for amnesty to raise awareness about human trafficking, leading up to our speaker (Carissa Phelps) on monday. i've been asked to elaborate on what amnesty international is and what it does. this site can tell you all about it :) speaking of amnesty, i just ordered a couple shirts from them. i'm pretty excited about that.
anyway, back to I'm Not For Sale week. it's been pretty great. we had a table in the student union this week giving out bracelets that we made in human trafficking awareness colors (navy and red). we had a petition for people to sign to the legislators of three states in the US that don't have any laws against sex trafficking (wyoming, colorado, and pennsylvania - i know, right?). it's been pretty successful.
so how this relates to halloween: on wednesday, we showed a film called flesh that's all about sex trafficking. if you're ever in the mood for a documentary on such a topic, i recommend it. it was really good. very eye-opening, you know, because when a lot of people think of sex trafficking, they think of it happening overseas, but it happens just as much here in america. one thing i learned was that if, say a thai girl and an american girl were caught in sex trafficking, the thai girl would be given options for getting help because she would be seen as a victim, but the american girl would be arrested on the assumption that she chose that lifestyle (newsflash - no one ever wants that for themselves. these girls are coerced into it). just some food for thought.

on a less serious note, let's talk about halloween. kate and i wanted to watch the cabin in the woods (a ridiculous film, i must say). i looked it up at the library and it was in, so we went after our amnesty meeting (which followed the showing of the film), but it was nowhere to be found. we looked all over the movie section and even asked someone for help, but to no avail. so i looked it up on redbox, and it was there. so we went to kum and go (which is apparently going to turn into a casey's one of these days) and got it. started watching it around eleven. we did not go to bed early that night, needless to say. but anyhow. that was my halloween. how was yours?

i am going to mention this quickly so i don't dwell on it too long, but it is a major issue in my life currently so i can't ignore it completely. i pre-ordered taylor swift's new album (you know how much i love taylor). i ordered a preorder package, so it comes with some other stuff. i also some of her perfume (i had a coupon!). the album was set to release on the twenty-second of october. i got an email ten days before saying they'd shipped it. wrong. they did not ship it till the day it was released. fine. ups confirmed it's delivery to kirksville on the twenty-fourth. ...it's missing. i haven't gotten a notification that it's in. they (reslife) don't know where it is. i emailed the guy in charge of our building's mail, and he said he'd look into it. i emailed him again and he hasn't responded yet. i'm very sad, especially considering that everyone and their brother is talking about the album/it's plastered everywhere on the internet and in real life. ..that wasn't so quick. anyway. until you get a super excited facebook status update from me saying i got it, don't talk to me about taylor. please. it's overwhelming.

fall events. student activities board brought a musician (B.o.b) and a comedian (Judah Freidlander). they were very good. if you get a chance to see them in person, i recommend it.

so spanish club. i don't know if i've told you how burnt out i am on it. but i am. but it's alright. the people, though few, are nice. so that makes it bearable. i'm getting through it. it's not so bad. all the time.

speaking of spanish club, my friend, becca (the historian of said club) and i went to walmart to get some snacks for this week's meeting. on our way there, someone on the road was honking at us but we had no clue why. when we were ready to leave walmart, there was a note on my windshield that said my rear passenger tire was almost flat. thankfully the lady parked next to us had something in her trunk to air it up, and told me that there was a tire service around the corner of walmart. so i took it over there to see what was wrong with it, and they found that there was a big ole nail in it! so they patched it for me. but thank goodness for nice people, because i probably wouldn't have noticed (i'm very observant, don'tcha know).

anyway, that's all i have. have a happy november! i'll update again sometime after thanksgiving!
