let's get to it, then!
***
first of all, spring break has already come and gone for us. it was entirely too short. i was not ready to go back. except that no one else was on break then, so none of us really had anything exciting to do. i had to write a ten-page paper while i was home, though. you see, this was my midterm paper for one of my history classes. it was supposed to be done by the midterm exam, but all of us had a bunch of tests coming up, and some people in my class started negotiating with the professor to try to get him to extend it past break. he told us he probably wasn't going to grade them till after break anyway, so he extended it until the first class after break. he sent out an email that sunday night, however, saying that he was sick and class was cancelled for tuesday, so we got two extra days to work on it! it was very exciting. i think i did pretty well. hopefully. we'll see once he finally grades them and gets them back to us.

speaking of that class, we got our midterms back the other day. my friends were all in the B range, i believe, so i was expecting to be somewhere in there as well. (i'm not implying that we cheat. we just all have about the same level of quality.) but guess what. i got my exam back, opened it up, and a lovely little A was perched a the top of the page. I WAS SO EXCITED. it quite literally made my day. i'm still excited. i want to hang it on the wall for all to see. (but, alas, i'm running out of wall space. i've been stealing posters from old events lately..)
***
after having a week off of classes, going back to circuit strength training was difficult. everything hurt the first class back. it was like starting all over again. i do think i'm building up some muscle, though.
***
also, it's been ridiculously warm here. we're talking fifties to seventies pretty much every day. it's awesome. i'm totally diggin it. and the pear trees are starting to bloom, and the daffodils are blooming. it's wonderful. and the wind has been pretty tame. due to this incredible weather, it was starting to get pretty hot in our room. so one day, i ripped the plastic off in a flourish. (it was not as dramatic as i had hoped, though, because i didn't have an audience and i didn't really make any sound effects. it did take a tiny spot of paint off the wall, but i don't think anyone will notice...) and now we have one of the windows open a few inches. 24/7. even when it rains. i'm a bit surprised that the rain hasn't been coming in the windows... anyway, it feels fantastic. i recommend open windows.

so kate and i have been attending amnesty international meetings. and they're pretty good. the president, aaron, is gorgeous. like, he was a model. in france. for designers you've actually heard of. it's crazy. plus he's just an interesting person. but anyway. the faculty advisor is this little old french professor and her british husband always tags along. his name is larry and he's very opinionated and always wants us to do something crazy and radical. whenever he gets the opportunity to talk about anything, he goes on about it for.ever. oh my goodness. it's even worse when his wife isn't with him. at one meeting she was absent for, i'm pretty sure he talked for at least a half an hour. i was keeping time. it's crazy. oh my goodness. ok. enough about that.
***
lastly, i would like to ask you to hold my scholarship job application in your thoughts/prayers. i'm applying to the writing center. you can look at what they do here. i've been in touch with the director, asking him about aspects of the application (there is so much stuff you have to have to apply for this job! you have to have two samples of writing between 4 and 12 pages, two faculty letters of recommendation and one from a student, the application itself, and a letter stating why you want the job). i think all my recommendation letters are in the works, i've picked out my samples, and i've submitted the application. i just need to write the letter, which i'm nervous about. i've never had to do this before.

that's all i have. but i'll keep you updated ;)
happy spring!

a little update about february
hello.
not much has been going on except for lots and lots of schoolwork. but here are some things to note about the lovely month of february.
***
valentine's day was nice. danielle, kate, alli, and i gave valentines to all our friends. sam made valentines for me, kate, and danielle, but he was the only boy to do so. oh well. it doesn't matter. i bought those pre-made cookies that you just stick in the oven at walmart. they were disney princess. we cooked them a little too long but they were still good. and i also bought the movie valentine's day. it was a lovely celebration.
***
and then on the nineteenth, my parents and sister came to visit! that was exciting. i didn't want them to leave. i showed them the wonders of truman and kirksville and we had lunch and then hung out in my room because my roommate was gone on a retreat that weekend. (whenever she and sam go on their catholic retreats, kate and i always joke with them that the kids are going to church camp. danielle seems to be in denial about the fact that a retreat is just a short version of church camp.)
***
we signed up for housing! danielle found herself a roommate, but this girl wants to live in a different building than kate and i do, so she's not even going to be our suitemate next year. kate is incredibly excited about this because danielle has woken her up three or four times this past month by blow drying her hair at strange hours (like six o'clock in the morning when everyone else in our suite is asleep). anyway, kate and i currently have no suitemates, but kate keeps checking on it every day just in case. we're thinking that we might have freshman. which wouldn't be completely awful, depending on what they're like. we're going to be staying in BNB (Blanton-Nason-Brewer Hall). you can check out some pictures of the inside here. it's so much nicer than centennial.
***
my workload sucks. it's just awful. i have tons of stuff to read all the time. and now, i have a ten page history paper due at the end of break. i'm three pages in, which is better than my friends in that class have done, so at least there's that. but it's just so much work and i'm getting so burnt out and i can't wait for break. good thing it starts today once i'm done with class. :)
